Point Reyes National Seashore wildflowers

Chimney Rock and Abbott's Lagoon at Point Reyes National Seashore are two of my favorite places to look for wildflowers. Both are beautiful and diverse.
The out-and-back hike to Chimney Rock is about two miles. The trail has some uphill sections; you can expect it to be windy. Look for large clumps, some 10 feet across, of Douglas iris, Iris douglasiana. We think of paintbrush as red-colored; here we find the unusual yellow paintbrush, Castilleja wightii.
The out-and-back hike to Abbott's Lagoon is three miles, mostly level. Some of my favorite wildflowers to spot are pussy ears, Calochortus tolmiei, and marsh marigold, Ranunculus orthorhynchus.
